Weaving – Breathe, Weave, Threads, is a composition-improvisation triptych, inspired by the practice historically associated with women in many cultures around the Globe, and transposing it into the realm of contemporary sound art. I draw on my cultural Romanian heritage to explore the acoustic weaving of spatialized electronics and live processed violin as embodied memory and identity, connecting to the broader themes of presence and dwelling.
The work was composed for the project INTERWOVEN (link), and premiered at Espace La Velle, Le Noirmont (25.01.26) and Druckereihalle Ackermannshof, Basel (15.03.26).
Breathe
A deployment of harmonics and drones infused with impressions of traditional improvised love song from Romania (Doină de dragoste), inviting meditative listening focused on breath, and a relational perception of time.
Weave
An electroacoustic composition based on the sounds of the loom and bells, where repetitive gestures become sonic rituals. The text spoken in Romanian represents a spell of disenchantment against the evil eye (deochi), a haunting belief deeply rooted in Romanian culture that an envious glance can cast harm upon its subject.
Threads
Field recordings, fragments of Romanian dance (Jiana), and improvised violin gestures intertwine with a listening practice exploring subjective temporalities, memory, and continuity.
